The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has raised concerns over the termination of the Vice Chancellor of the Bolgatanga Technical University, questioning whether due process was followed.
In a letter to the university’s Governing Council, GTEC said, “We have been informed that the Vice Chancellor’s appointment has been terminated with immediate effect following an investigative report.
”The Commission said the decision appears to have gone ahead despite earlier instructions to suspend action on the matter.
“The Minister of Education directed that no action be taken until the report is reviewed and further instructions issued.”
GTEC also referenced discussions involving the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education.
“A meeting with stakeholders resulted in a clear directive that the matter should be held in abeyance pending consultations.
”The Commission further warned that the action may not align with established governance procedures governing the removal of a Vice Chancellor.
It added that it will continue to review the situation to ensure compliance with institutional rules and proper administrative process.
