Not every Ghanaian problem can be solved with legislation – Edudzi

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Edudzi Tamakloe, has commented on the ongoing public debate surrounding former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s refusal to return to Ghana while facing questions over his tenure in office.

Speaking on TV3 he argued that public office holders remain accountable even after leaving office and cannot avoid legal processes by staying outside the country.

He drew comparisons with international cases, pointing to legal proceedings involving former officials in other jurisdictions.

“A Republican former FBI boss is today being prosecuted… mighty America. What conditions are we talking about?” he said.

According to him, the principle of accountability applies universally and is not dependent on political convenience or geography.

He suggested that public trust in governance is affected when individuals subject to inquiry remain outside the reach of local processes.

“You just came, abused this country’s resources and decide that let’s run away because we are above the law,” he stated.

Edudzi Tamakloe maintained that institutions must function in a way that ensures accountability is not weakened by absence or delay tactics.
