He shared his regrets and leadership lessons – Franklin Cudjoe recalls his meeting with former President Kufuor

IMANI Africa President Franklin Cudjoe has reflected on a meeting he had with former President John Agyekum Kufuor a decade ago, describing it as a conversation that offered lasting lessons on leadership.

In a Facebook post marking the anniversary of the meeting, Cudjoe said the former President invited him for a discussion that lasted about two and a half hours.

“Ten years ago today, one of the most respected African leaders of our time and the most successful politician of the UP tradition invited me for a meeting,” he wrote.

According to Cudjoe, Kufuor welcomed him warmly and remarked to a colleague who accompanied him, “You have no idea what joy you have brought me today by bringing this man to me.”

He said the meeting covered a wide range of issues, including the former President’s reflections on leadership, personal regrets and experiences in public office.

“It was a great two-and-a-half-hour meeting, filled with interesting insights, almost sharing his memoir, regrets, and nuggets of wisdom on leadership, whose meaning makes sense today,” Cudjoe stated.

He concluded the post with a light-hearted observation about honours conferred during Kufuor’s presidency.

“Of course he awarded himself Bokassa and Iddi Amin-like titles with gold medallions to match at the end of his tenure. You guys think big awards and ceremonies are recent phenomena? Koklo,” he wrote.
