Mother’s Day Reflection: Asiedu Nketia Recalls Pain of Losing His Mother 12 Years Ago

Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has shared memories of his late mother ahead of Mother’s Day, reflecting on the values she taught him before her passing in 2014.

He said he took time to think about his mother, Hagar Akosua Afrah, whom he affectionately called “Kwaa”.

“Ahead of Mother’s Day on Sunday, I took time to reflect on precious moments with my late mum, Hagar Akosua Afrah, Kwaa – as we lovingly called her, who passed on 2nd May, 2014 (12 years ago),” he said.

He explained that many of the lessons she taught him continue to guide his life today.

“Some of life’s most enduring lessons are formed long before we fully grasp their significance,” he said.

According to him, his mother always emphasised faith, discipline and respect for others.

“In Kwaa’s quiet guidance, I learnt a few things worth sharing,” he stated. “To place God at the centre of all things. To persevere with determination. Never give up. To show respect for all, no matter where they come from or who they are.”

He added that she also taught him integrity.

“And finally, to do what is right even when no one is watching,” he said.

Asiedu Nketia said those values remain with him and continue to shape his decisions.

“These principles have remained a constant guide throughout my life,” he said.

He ended his reflection with gratitude.

“I’m truly grateful for you, Kwaa,” he added.
