Selena Gomez says marriage to Benny Blanco still feels like a honeymoon as she settles into her first year as his wife.
The 34-year-old singer and Rare Beauty founder said she loves having a partner who listens to her and accepts her regardless of how she feels on a particular day.
“I love it. It just feels so wonderful to have a partner that actually genuinely listens and just meets you right where you are, whatever that mood or day looks like, and that’s all I could ask for,” Gomez said.
“I just need him, and I love him, so it’s pretty great,” she added.
Gomez also described Blanco, 38, as a joyful and spontaneous person who brings a lot of fun into their relationship.
“He is a very joyful human. He’s very fun, spontaneous and he loves to talk!” she said.
The couple’s relationship developed from a friendship after they first met as teenagers. They later worked together on music before becoming romantically involved in 2023.
Their professional relationship continued with the 2025 album I Said I Love You First, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Pop Recording.
Gomez said she valued Blanco’s experience in music while working on the album but appreciated that he allowed her to make her own decisions.
“He happens to be extremely more advanced in that world than I am, and I really appreciate his advice and his guidance, but he never took control of anything,” she said.
She added that although she enjoyed making the album with him, she did not expect to make every album together.
“I don’t think I would make every album with him, but I loved it, and we have a memory now. We’ve done something together,” she said.
Blanco recently spoke about their upcoming first wedding anniversary while guest-hosting Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, saying the milestone had come “so quickly.”
