Ibrahim Mahama to sue over allegations that he is seeking to acquire VALCO

Ibrahim Mahama is preparing legal action against individuals over claims that he is seeking to acquire the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO).

The businessman, through a statement issued by his Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, denied having any interest in purchasing the state-owned aluminium company or making any offer to acquire it.

“Mr Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO,” the statement said.

The response comes after concerns raised by the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU)-Ghana over reports of a possible sale of VALCO. The union petitioned President John Dramani Mahama and organised a protest calling for the company to remain under Ghanaian ownership.

The statement said the claims linking Ibrahim Mahama to VALCO were false and part of attempts to damage his reputation.

It added that businesses in which he has interests were legally established or acquired and operate within applicable laws.

According to the statement, Ibrahim Mahama remains committed to investing in Ghana and beyond, and has instructed his lawyers to take the necessary legal steps over the claims.
