Ghanaian lawyer and public speaker Noelie Yehouessi has advised women to pay attention to what men tell them at the beginning of a relationship instead of assuming they will eventually change their minds.
Speaking on Joy Prime, Yehouessi said some women spend years in relationships because they ignore clear indications that the man is not interested in marriage or a serious commitment.
“A man is telling you that he’s not looking for anything serious, and you thought he was drunk, but you had your own understanding,” she said.
According to her, women sometimes become attached to their preferred idea of a partner and overlook what that person is actually saying about his intentions.
Yehouessi said she has also encountered situations where a man made it clear that he did not want marriage but only wanted to have a child.
In such cases, she said, staying in the relationship while hoping he would change his mind would not make sense.
“I just want to have a child. That doesn’t align with what I want. So I’m not gonna be in a relationship with that person hoping and praying that he suddenly changes his mind,” she stated.
She therefore urged people to listen carefully to what their partners say and allow those statements to guide their decisions.
“Speak louder than words,” Yehouessi added.
