Legal innocence is not a magic eraser – Kay Cudjoe reacts to Aboagye’s case

Political commentator and IMANI Africa affiliate Kay Cudjoe has argued that Dennis Miracles Aboagye should challenge the legal case against him in court rather than through media appearances.

Reacting to the ongoing EOCO investigation, Cudjoe said an Accra High Court’s decision to freeze five bank accounts and four landed properties marked a significant stage in the case.

“This is not conviction, confiscation or proof that the assets are criminal proceeds. It is judicial preservation,” he wrote on Facebook.

Cudjoe noted that Aboagye remains entitled to the presumption of innocence and has the legal right to seek a variation or revocation of the court orders and demand strict proof from investigators.

However, he argued that public commentary cannot replace the legal process.

“Presumption of innocence is a legal protection, not a magic eraser. It does not erase audit findings, answer financial questions, unfreeze accounts or release properties,” he stated.

He also questioned the source of funds linked to the assets under investigation.

“What entered the accounts? From whom? When were the properties acquired? At what price? What lawful income financed them? What connects them to the questioned transactions?” Cudjoe asked.

Concluding his remarks, he contrasted public relations with the legal process.

“Miracles wanted to command the narrative. The High Court has commanded the assets,” he wrote.
