President John Dramani Mahama has directed a temporary GHC2 reduction in the regulatory margin on diesel to help ease the burden on consumers and limit the impact of rising fuel prices.
The directive, announced by the Presidency on Monday, August 3, 2026, will take effect from Tuesday, August 4, and remain in force for one month unless the government decides otherwise.
According to a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the decision follows Cabinet approval and builds on a similar intervention introduced in April 2026.
The government said the temporary measure is intended to cushion consumers, prevent increases in transport fares, reduce inflationary pressures and limit the impact of higher fuel prices on the cost of living.
