The Minority in Parliament has alleged that the delay in committing former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe Attionu to prison amounted to interference with a court order.
Speaking at a press conference, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah said preventing a convicted person from immediately beginning a prison sentence imposed by a court raises legal and constitutional concerns.
“By preventing her from serving the prison term for the 15 days that she has been in Ghana, government has interfered with a lawful order of a court of competent jurisdiction, and that is contempt of court,” he said.
He further alleged that Sedina Tamakloe had been given assurances regarding efforts to challenge her conviction.
“She is in prison custody now. She was admitted yesterday, and she has been given assurances,” he stated.
“Another assurance she has been given is that they are going to work around the clock to have the decision overturned.”
Sedina Tamakloe was convicted in absentia in 2024 and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment over offences related to her tenure as MASLOC Chief Executive.
