Brong Ahafo Region’s Bright Ofosu and Central Region’s Desmond Korlettey were the standout players in Friday’s Group B matches at the MTN Elite U-19 Championship, earning Most Valuable Player awards despite different results for their teams.
Ofosu received the MVP award after Brong Ahafo Region’s dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout defeat to Northern Region following a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
The youngster put in a strong performance throughout the match and was recognised for his efforts despite his team losing in the penalty shootout.
Brong Ahafo took an early lead through Kwaku Frimpong Jnr before Northern Region fought back to level the score.
Northern later moved ahead, but Brong Ahafo responded again to make it 2-2 and force the game into penalties.
Northern Region eventually won 3-2 from the spot, but Ofosu’s impressive display earned him the MVP award.
Korlettey helps Central Region to late win
Central Region’s Desmond Korlettey also claimed MVP honours after helping his team secure a dramatic 1-0 victory over Greater Accra Region.
Korlettey played an important role as Central Region remained organised against a Greater Accra side that had shown strong attacking form earlier in the competition.
The game looked set to end goalless until Kwame Amoako scored in the 91st minute to give Central Region a valuable three points.
Korlettey’s performance earned him the MVP award and capped a memorable day for Central Region.
The MTN Elite U-19 Championship continues to give some of Ghana’s brightest young footballers the chance to improve their technical and tactical skills while gaining valuable experience in competitive matches.
