Nobody should clean anything again – NDC organiser replies TV host over national clean-up exercise

NDC youth organiser Amorse Blessing Amos has responded to lawyer and TV host Samson Lardy Anyenini’s comments on the recently concluded National General Cleaning Exercise, arguing that legal debates should not undermine efforts to improve sanitation.

In a social media post, Amos wrote: “Nobody should clean anything in this country again. When your house or workplace gets flooded, go to Samson Lardy Anyenini for remedy.”

He added: “We live in a country where we think everything is about law.”

His comments follow Anyenini’s position that compelling citizens to participate in a clean-up exercise is unlawful unless there is a by-law authorising such enforcement.

The exchange comes after Ghana concluded a two-day National General Cleaning Exercise led by President John Dramani Mahama. The exercise was organised in response to the June 29 floods that claimed 13 lives and affected more than 7,000 households across seven regions.

As part of the exercise, taskforces from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly confiscated goods from food vendors who defied directives to suspend trading, while sanitation offenders were arrested or summoned.

In Kumasi, authorities also demolished kiosks and structures said to be obstructing public spaces and drainage channels as part of an anti-congestion operation.
