NPA vows action against those stealing fuel from accident sites

Director of National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Eduzdi Tameklo, has condemned the dangerous practice of stealing fuel from tankers after accidents, describing it as a “disturbing phenomenon.”

“Any time there’s a tanker accident, some people try stealing the products from these tankers,” he said. “In some cases, this has led to massive explosions, causing loss of lives and property.”

Tameklo explained that authorities are taking steps to hold offenders accountable.

“We are working with the Ghana Police using video recordings to arrest those found stealing from tankers involved in accidents,” he told reporters.

He added that collaboration with the Ghana Police Service Cyber Crime Unit and the Inspector General of Police is helping to ensure arrests and prosecutions are carried out.

“This is one way to send a clear message to the public that stealing fuel is a crime,” Tameklo noted.
