The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said between 3,000 and 4,000 police officers have been deployed to provide security for its National Delegates Conference and executive elections at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, the party’s Organisation Committee Chairperson, said the police deployment would cover the stadium, delegates’ hostels and traffic management around the conference venue.
Speaking to Citi News ahead of the conference, Karbo said the party had completed its preparations and was ready to host the delegates.
“We’re very much ready for tomorrow; you come around, you see the police and arrangements so far. I’m sure we’re ready; delegates are arriving at their hostels,” he said.
He commended the Inspector General of Police and the Ashanti Regional Police Command for their cooperation in organising security for the event.
“The IGP has been fantastic so far; his regional command has been cooperative with us, and they have worked hard to deploy about 3,000 to 4,000 police force to help us with security arrangements and traffic within the hostels and also the stadium,” he added.
The police officers are expected to manage traffic, secure accommodation facilities for delegates and guests, and maintain order within and around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The conference will bring together NPP delegates to elect national executives who will lead the party as it prepares for the next general election.
