NPP is 250,000 votes short of its 1.5m Ashanti target – Mussa Dankwah

Mussa Dankwah, pollster and CEO of Global Info Analytics boss, has said the NPP still has a significant gap to close if it wants to achieve its target of 1.5 million votes in the Ashanti Region in the 2028 election.

Dankwah said the region currently has 3,295,274 registermllned voters. If the voter population increases by 3.5% during the next registration exercise, it could rise to about 3.41 million.

He said securing 1.5 million votes under a 70% voter turnout and 2% rejected ballots would give the NPP about 68.3% of the valid votes cast.

But Dankwah described that figure as historically low for the party in its strongest region.

He said the July 2026 tracking poll shows that the NPP is currently between 250,000 and 270,000 votes short of the 1.5 million target, depending on which candidate the NDC eventually presents.

This, he said, should serve as a warning to the NPP and its regional executives as they prepare for the 2028 election.

“The battle ahead is massive,” Dankwah said.

He cautioned the party against setting ambitious targets before all the relevant data is available.

“Don’t put the cart before the horse. Wait for all the data to be available before setting your target. It is too early JFK,” he added.

Dankwah’s comments suggest that while the NPP remains focused on winning 1.5 million votes in the Ashanti Region, current voter trends show that the party still has considerable ground to cover.
