Two people are in police custody in Wa after security operatives seized substances suspected to be narcotic drugs near the ESP bus station.
One of the suspects, identified only as S.K., was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026, shortly after arriving in Wa from Kumasi on a commercial bus. He was allegedly carrying a bag containing the suspected substances.
Security sources said S.K. allegedly made calls after his arrest to people believed to be connected to the consignment.
The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, said the substances have been secured for forensic testing. He cautioned that their exact nature cannot be confirmed until the results are available.
“So far, we have two in custody, and we’re working around the clock to see if there are other people connected and also to conduct what we call forensic analysis of the substances in our custody,” he said.
The police have not disclosed the identities of the two suspects or the quantity of substances seized. Investigators are also trying to establish whether the suspected consignment was meant for distribution in Wa or was being transported elsewhere.
DCOP Yiribaare said the suspects would be processed for court once investigations are completed.
“As soon as possible. We do not intend to hold them unnecessarily beyond the constitutional mandate given to us,” he said.
