The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has postponed its proposed constitutional amendments to its next national conference, citing time constraints at its ongoing National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
The party announced the decision on Saturday, October 3, saying delegates needed more time to consider the proposals, which were initially scheduled for discussion before the national executives’ elections.
The fewer than 20 proposed changes include a review of the party’s leadership structure, with the flagbearer expected to replace the National Chairman as the party’s leader. The NPP’s January 2026 conference in Accra had approved a clause designating the National Chairman as leader at all material times.
Other proposals concern the structure of the national vice-chairmanship and the communications and information technology positions.
The party will now focus on electing its new national executives, with 7,163 delegates expected to vote at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Electoral Commission is supervising the elections as the NPP reorganises ahead of the 2028 general election.
