Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed reassured members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the party hierarchy will maintain neutrality during the flagbearer primaries.
“We have been neutral throughout,” Mohammed said. “In 2023, in 2026, we have maintained neutrality.
“We set up a presidential elections committee, and the intraparty committee deliberates and agrees to have consensus.”
He stressed that the party leadership is committed to upholding the sovereign will of the delegates and ensuring a peaceful process.
“The party hierarchy and executives are ready to uphold that, should any mishmash occur during elections,” Mohammed told reporters.
The Deputy General Secretary also highlighted the disciplinary procedures in place for members who cross party lines, adding, “Those who cross the line, the disciplinary procedures will come.”
The NPP is voting today to elect their flagbearer ahead of the 2028 elections. This is the first time they are holding early presidential primaries.
