Obuasi SHTS case: Allow the law to take its course – Vice President breaks silence

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called for the law to take its course in the alleged sexual assault case involving Zakaria Abdulai, the suspended headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).

Describing the matter as a serious national concern, she said the case had implications for the lives of those affected and society, both now and in the future.

“What I want to see is that we all allow the law to take its course because this is a very serious matter, especially as it affects the lives of people not only in the present but also going into the future,” she said.

The Vice President said she had followed developments in the case, including the NDC’s decision regarding Mr Abdulai’s attempt to contest on the party’s ticket and a letter issued by the party’s General Secretary.

She also said she had heard comments made by Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka on the matter.

Her comments come amid investigations into allegations of sexual abuse involving female students at Obuasi SHTS. The Ghana Education Service has suspended Mr Abdulai, while the Interior Minister has confirmed his arrest as investigations continue.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged the public to allow the legal process to proceed, emphasising the seriousness of the allegations and their potential consequences.

“This is a very, very serious matter. It is a matter of concern to all of us and it is a matter of national concern,” she said.
