‘Sexually Abused’ Obuasi SHS Students Need Justice and Counselling – Obaa Yaa

Former NPP USA Chairperson, Nana Yaa Amponsah Frimpong, says students allegedly sexually abused at Obuasi Senior High School have the right to seek legal redress against the headmaster and the school for the alleged harm and trauma they suffered.

Nana Yaa stressed that the response to the allegations must go beyond investigating the accused and include measures to support the affected students.

She argued that the alleged victims may pursue legal action over the physical harm and psychological distress they experienced, while urging authorities to ensure their welfare is not overlooked during the investigation.

“The children have been traumatised, so there has to be some counselling and conversations around it,” she said on Kumasi-based Oyerepa Radio

Nana Yaa emphasised that the students require appropriate counselling and continued attention to help them deal with the potential emotional and psychological effects of their experiences.

She further called for support services to be provided alongside the investigation, rather than waiting until the case against the headmaster has been concluded.

“All these processes must go on simultaneously. While they are convicting the Obuasi SHS headmaster, Abdullai Zakaria, the children should also be attended to,” she stated.
