COP Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, visited Swedru Business School to address the violence that erupted during the District Schools Athletics Games at Agona Swedru.
“That is your shirt we are wearing,” he told the school authorities.
“If somebody is wearing your uniform and attacking a fellow human being, your school must be concerned to find out who is behind that shirt and hand them over to the police.”
He gave the school a clear deadline. “I am giving you 24 hours to produce the people in that shirt who attacked the boy,” COP Donkor said, emphasizing that the law enforcement authorities were prepared to take action if the school failed to comply.
He explained that the criminal acts observed are defined under the Criminal Offences Act, making the situation more than just a disciplinary issue.
COP Donkor underlined that law enforcement would prefer the school handle the initial identification to avoid implicating innocent students.
“If we were to act directly, everybody could be affected. This is why I am giving you the opportunity to produce them,” he added.
The Ghana Police Service has identified the individuals in the video as wearing Swedru Business School shirts, and a comprehensive review of the footage is underway to identify all involved.
