COP Lydia Donkor of the Ghana Police Service has mentioned that the attack during the District Schools Athletics Games is not an isolated case.
Speaking at Swedru Business School, he noted, “It is sad to note that the Ghana Police Service has recorded reports of similar violent incidents involving students in other educational institutions across the country.”
Data from the Police Service indicate that 38 cases of student violence were recorded in 2025, with the Upper East Region having the highest number.
So far in 2026, three cases have already been reported, including the Swedru Business School incident.
COP Donkor urged collaboration between school authorities, parents, community leaders, and law enforcement.
“School premises should be safe places for learning. These incidents cannot continue, and administrators have a responsibility to ensure this is the last occurrence at your school or any other school,” he said.
The official also called for students to resolve disagreements peacefully.
“I admonish all young people to use peaceful means to resolve conflicts and report situations that go beyond you to teachers. Don’t take the law into your own hands,” he warned.
