The Accra Metropolitan Assembly, AMA, says data is being collected on residents affected by the June 29 floods as authorities prepare to provide support.
Speaking on Joy News, AMA Head of Public Affairs Gilbert Nii Ankrah said the Mayor, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, is working with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly because the affected area falls within its jurisdiction.
“That particular zone falls under the Municipal Assembly, and the Mayor, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, is liaising with the MCE there to ensure that affected persons are supported in a way.
Currently, as I speak to you now, data is being taken, and we are quite hopeful that there will be some level of support,” he said.
Responding to questions about congestion in the area, Ankrah said the two assemblies are also discussing decongestion measures.
“Just as I said, the Mayor is working closely with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly. That area falls under the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, so we’re working closely to ensure that some of these decongestions within the markets will be done to prevent some of these fire outbreaks,” he added.
The comments come after the June 29 floods affected several communities across Greater Accra, prompting ongoing assessment and relief efforts by local authorities.
