Three arrested after woman was allegedly asked to sell her baby for Ghc20,000

Three people have been arrested after police alleged they attempted to persuade a woman to sell her newborn baby for GHC20,000 in Gbane in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the woman gave birth on June 26, 2026, and was later approached by suspects Peace Agbede and Favour Sunday Udo, who allegedly encouraged her to sell the baby to an interested buyer.

Police said the woman is one of the victims in an ongoing investigation into alleged human trafficking and forced prostitution.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Peace Agbede allegedly met the victim in Nigeria and promised to help her pursue a career in the movie industry if she travelled to Ghana.

According to police, the promise was not fulfilled after the victim arrived in Ghana. Instead, she was allegedly taken to the mining community of Gbane-Tongo and coerced into prostitution.

Police further alleged that the victim was required to pay GHC400 daily to her handler.

The third suspect, Faith Levy, was also arrested in connection with the case.

Police said a search of Peace Agbede’s room led to the recovery of six sales recording books bearing the names Esther, Mary, Bright and Silver, as well as 265 unused condoms.
