Teachers won’t return to class without concrete agreement – NAGRAT

NAGRAT President Jacob Anaba has said teachers will remain on strike until the government reaches a concrete agreement with the association on its outstanding demands.

The demands concern the expired collective agreement, deprived area allowance and delays with teacher promotions.

“Our collective agreement expired since June, we have deprived area allowance and the teacher promotional issues. We’ve spoken to government and our cries are not being heard,” Anaba said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.

He said talks with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on October 6 ended without an agreement after both sides presented proposals.

“Our meeting with Fair Wages today was inconclusive. They made a proposal and we made a counter-proposal, so they said they are going back for a mandate to be able to meet us again,” he said.

Anaba said NAGRAT is now waiting for government to invite the association back to the negotiating table.

“Until we have concluded the negotiations and gotten something concrete on the table, we won’t go back to school,” he stressed.

He also criticised the handling of teacher promotions, saying the process had previously been smooth.

“Our promotions have been smooth until the NDC government returned to power,” Anaba said.
