Mr Awentami Paul Afoko has accepted the outcome of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) national executive elections, saying he could not deliver the victory his supporters expected and that the delegates “preferred otherwise.”
In a statement, Mr. Afoko, who contested the party’s national chairmanship, described the campaign as “long and demanding,” but also very enriching and exhilarating, as he met and exchanged ideas with the party’s grassroots.
He thanked his campaign team for their sacrifices during the campaign’s difficult moments, and his loyal supporters for believing in his vision. He then acknowledged the result, saying he had been unable to deliver the victory they had all expected.
Mr. Afoko said this was not for lack of effort, either on his part or on theirs. “I came with a message of the 3 Rs. However, the delegates preferred otherwise,” he said.
The 3Rs, Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture Power, were the centre of the blueprint Mr. Afoko, a former National Chairman, took to party members in the regions during the campaign.
He said he hopes and prays that the endorsed vision of the newly elected executives will bring the party the needed power in 2028.
Mr Afoko said he will meet his campaign team shortly for a debriefing and will go around to thank his supporters personally.
