GoldBod Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, Minister of Communications Sam George, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa have been accused of contributing to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s growing unpopularity, with warnings that their actions could ultimately hurt the party’s political fortunes.
Kennedy Mintah referred to the three government figures as “the three Sams” and claimed they were creating problems for the administration and courting disaffection with the government of the day.
“The three Sams that will take NDC to opposition are Sammy Gyamfi, Sam George and Sam Ablakwa. They are making the government unpopular,” he said on Oyerepa Radio
Mintah’s criticism centred particularly on the government’s approach to illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey. He argued that illegal mining’s destruction of farming communities makes the issue one that requires a firm approach.
He also criticised what he attributed to Sammy Gyamfi as his position that mining could be undertaken with or without a licence, arguing that such an approach could create room for abuses.
“But galamsey is destroying our farming communities, but now Sammy Gyamfi is saying that with or without licence one can engage in mining,” the NPP Communicator stated
Mintah further alleged that the position could indicate corruption he believes could emerge under the current administration.
“This is just the beginning of the kind of corruption coming up ahead,” he claimed.
