They are stoking fire – Fred Kyei Mensah on Obinims’ marriage crisis

Veteran music producer Fred Kyei Mensah has accused social media users, bloggers and other commentators of worsening the marital difficulties between Bishop Daniel Obinim and Florence Obinim.

According to Kyei Mensah, the couple’s marriage problems have attracted intense public attention because private disagreements have increasingly found their way into the media and social media.

“Some social media enthusiasts, bloggers, rumor and war mongers, are stoking fire to the seemingly endless marriage conundrum that has engulfed Bishop Daniel Obinim and his wife Florence Obinim,” he said.

He questioned why the couple would make their marital problems public while knowing that people would use the information to comment on their relationship.

“Why bring your marriage issues out and think some people care too much?” he asked.

Kyei Mensah said he had watched as people attacked and criticised the couple, particularly Daniel Obinim, over the past few days.

He linked the situation to the growing influence of new media and what he described as unprofessional marriage counsellors and social media commentators who have become heavily involved in the couple’s private affairs.

The producer recalled advice from late Ghanaian musicians King Onyina, Kaakaku and Lord Bob Cole, saying their songs warned people against interfering in other people’s marriages.

Kyei Mensah said the situation had also made him question how quickly people turn against others when their private problems become public.

“Sometimes when I hear and listen to some of the insults directed at them, it makes me fear human beings,” he wrote.

He nevertheless acknowledged that the Obinims had contributed to the level of public interest by allowing aspects of their marital disagreements to emerge through interviews, audio recordings and private communications.

Kyei Mensah believes the couple need to improve their communication rather than allow outsiders to define the situation for them.

“Both couples, have some positive aura around them which far outweighs their current state of despair and how people perceive them however, I think both are not communicating well about this marriage brouhaha the reason why some people are roasting them,” he said.

He appealed to both Daniel and Florence to focus on resolving their differences internally rather than responding to public criticism.

Kyei Mensah ended by expressing his support for the couple and saying he hoped their current marital difficulties would eventually pass.

“I still love you no matter the consequences! This too shall pass! Good beads don’t rattle.”
