Vondee accuses NDC and NPP of turning administrative failures into political fights

Twifo Atti-Morkwa MP David Vondee has criticised both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for turning administrative controversies into political disputes instead of identifying and holding responsible officials accountable.

Speaking to Joy News about the controversy surrounding Ghana’s evacuation exercise in South Africa, Mr Vondee said the practice allowed officials whose work was in question to escape scrutiny while politicians bore the brunt of public criticism.

“What we, the politicians, do, which is not good for us, both the MPP and NDC, is that we do not go for the individuals who perpetrate wrongs,” he said.

“We try to politically accuse ourselves and leave the wrongdoings, who are the technocrats, and then we take the blame for them,” he added.

Mr Vondee noted that the NDC government had retained personnel who worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the previous NPP administration, arguing that the ministry’s accounting and other staff remained in place after the change of government.

He said the problem extended beyond one political party, describing the tendency to blame political opponents rather than identify officials responsible for wrongdoing as a practice common to successive governments.

“I will not blame the MPP too much. You know why? It has been a behaviour of all political parties to leave the perpetrators who are technocrats who actually do not do their work well,” he said.
