Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has criticised defender Luke Shaw following the team’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Hull City on Saturday.
United suffered a disappointing start to the new Premier League season at the MKM Stadium.
Goals from Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy gave Hull City all three points against the Red Devils.
Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Rooney was unhappy with Shaw’s defending for Hull’s second goal.
The England left-back dropped behind the rest of United’s defence, keeping Hull’s attackers onside.
Rooney described Shaw’s defending as “schoolboy” defending.
“This is schoolboy defending from Luke Shaw.
“Man United had a good line. Hull would have been waiting for this all day. Luke Shaw drops in; he’s five yards behind his back line, and if the ball is good enough, which it was, it’s impossible to stop,” Rooney said.
Manchester United will look to bounce back when they face Ipswich Town at Old Trafford next weekend.
