Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has questioned the decision not to provide a water break during his side’s 2-2 draw with Debibi United in the Ghana Premier League.
The match was played in very hot conditions at Golden City Park, and Tinkler believes the heat made the game more difficult for the players.
The South African coach said the players became dehydrated as the match went on and felt they should have been given a chance to take in fluids.
“And then the intense heat, the dehydration starts coming in. We didn’t have a water break, but in this weather we should be at least having a water break for the players. That’s the only criticism that I would give,” Tinkler said.
Tinkler also mentioned the heavy pitch, which he said made the players’ legs feel tired and added to the physical demands of the match.
However, he insisted that the condition of the pitch did not stop Kotoko from playing their usual style.
“The pitch didn’t stop us from playing our brand of football.”
