We, the citizens, have much more to do – Joselyn Dumas reacts to deadly floods in Accra

Actress Joselyn Dumas has reacted to the June 29 floods that affected Accra and other parts of Ghana, saying citizens also have responsibilities in addressing the situation.

In a social media post, she acknowledged that the government would provide support to affected communities but stressed that residents also have a role to play.

“Well, the government will do their best to help in this situation. But we, the citizens, have much more to do than the government. I hope we know that?” she wrote.

Her comments come after torrential rains triggered widespread flooding across the Greater Accra Region on June 29.

According to authorities, the floods have claimed 12 lives, left seven people missing and displaced more than 38,000 people from 7,761 households.

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak said the rainfall was the highest recorded in the region since 1995 and overwhelmed parts of the capital’s drainage infrastructure.

Among the reported incidents were a mother and child who were swept away in Achimota Abofu and three people who reportedly d!ed from electrocution in their homes in Alajo.
