When people die, we all get shocked – Sheikh Aremeyaw recalls Mahama’s reaction after August 6 crash

Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu has urged President John Dramani Mahama and Ghanaians to reflect on the lessons that come after losing loved ones, following the first anniversary memorial service for the eight victims of the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash.

Addressing the gathering, the Official Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam acknowledged the impact the incident had on the President, especially because of his close relationship with some of the victims.

“When people die, at the moment of death, we all get shocked,” he said.

Sheikh Aremeyaw specifically mentioned Alhaji Mohammed Muniru, one of the victims, and recalled the close relationship he had with President Mahama.

“One of them is Alhaji Muniru. And he tells me a story about how he is close with you and the functions and the errands that he undertakes on your behalf,” he said.

The August 6, 2025 helicopter crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District while the Ghana Air Force aircraft was travelling from Accra to Obuasi for an official programme related to small-scale mining.

Sheikh Aremeyaw said while the pain of losing people is immediate, those who remain must consider the meaning of life.

“But afterwards, that’s where those of us who are alive must take note,” he added.
