Wontumi case: My exit will redirect focus to evidence – Appiah-Kubi

Lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi has given further insight into why he withdrew from defending Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako in his ongoing galamsey-related trial, saying the decision was influenced by concerns over how the case was developing.

Speaking on Joy Prime, the lawyer suggested that proceedings had started to shift away from legal arguments toward personal issues, something he said needed correction.

“I think it will serve the best interest of my client if I withdraw from the case,” he said.

He explained that once proceedings become personalised, it affects how the matter is handled in court.

“When issues become personalised in proceedings, I think we need to redirect ourselves to the provisions of the law,” he stated.

According to him, stepping away from the case could help refocus attention on the evidence rather than individual relationships or tensions.

“My exclusion will probably redirect the court to the evidence of record,” he said.

Appiah-Kubi added that his decision should not be interpreted as abandonment but rather as a procedural step aimed at ensuring the case is handled strictly on legal grounds.
