Chairman Wontumi’s bail application is pending; his appeal has been adjourned to October 15, 2026.
Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako through his lawyers, Zoe, Akea & Co filed a notice of appeal against the decision of the High Court delivered on the 20th day of July, 2026, convicting him and sentencing him to 20 years in prison with hard labour for mining offences.
The notice of appeal canvassed and particularised constitutional issues raised and ignored by the Court, circumstantial evidence relied on by the Court and an improper application of the legal principle of veil piercing among others in convicting Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining.
The notice of appeal as filed on the 28th day of July, 2026 sought the acquittal of the Appellants and a reversal of, and the setting aside of the decision of the High Court in THE REPUBLIC v. BERNARD ANTWI BOASIAKO & ORS [TLP-HC-2026-20].
The Attorney General has served notice that it will not support the bail application insisting the Chairman Wontumi is a flight risk.
But today in court, Chairman Benard Antwi Bosiako and his Lawyers failed to appear before the court for the hearing.
The case has therefore been adjourned to October 15, 2026.
