Director of Communications for the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has declared that Alan Kyerematen will lead the party into the 2028 general elections, dismissing suggestions that the former Trade Minister could abandon the movement.
Owusu said Alan remained committed to the UP and would contest the presidency on its ticket if he remained alive and healthy enough to do so.
Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, he insisted that the party was not being formed as a temporary political project but was building structures to challenge the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“In 2028, if God grants Alan life, he will contest on the ticket of the United Party,” he said.
Owusu explained that the party was deliberately working behind the scenes to establish a strong political organisation rather than relying on publicity and political noise.
“We are building a very robust, a very solid political party that will stand the test of time. That is why we don’t make that much noise. We are working underground, putting all the structures in place to defeat the two political parties,” he stated.
He also pushed back against suggestions that the UP would not survive, referring to the party’s butterfly symbol and its formation on September 25, 2023.
Owusu said the butterfly would continue to grow and eventually contribute to transforming the country.
“That butterfly remains a butterfly, and it will continue to be a butterfly, and it will blossom and transform this country,” he added.
