Big Push wahala: Mahama urges Civil Society to monitor public projects

President John Dramani Mahama has called on Civil Society Organisations to actively participate in monitoring government projects and budget execution.

Speaking at a Jubilee House dialogue, he encouraged civil society to contribute ideas on legislation and support mechanisms that promote accountability.

Mahama referenced a Fourth Estate investigation on procurement under the Big Push Programme, stressing that while single sourcing is legal in some cases, open and transparent tenders are crucial for competitive pricing and value for money.

He confirmed that his office is seeking the full report from the Fourth Estate and a detailed response from the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

Plans are underway to amend the Public Procurement Act and create an Independent Value for Money Office, ensuring rigorous review of all single-source contracts.

“Together we can rebuild and strengthen public trust in our institutions,” Mahama said.
