President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to amend the Public Procurement Act to reduce single sourcing and strengthen transparency in public contracts.
Speaking at a dialogue with Civil Society Organisations at the Jubilee House, Mahama said open tenders are preferable for achieving competitive pricing and ensuring accountability.
His remarks followed a recent Fourth Estate exposé on procurement processes under the government’s Big Push Programme.
Mahama instructed his office to obtain the full report and requested the Ministry of Roads and Highways to provide a detailed response to the allegations.
The President also highlighted plans to set up an Independent Value for Money Office to review all single-source procurements under the amended law.
“Single sourcing must be used as sparingly as possible,” Mahama said, emphasizing that civil society will be consulted on the proposed legislation to safeguard public resources.
