Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima-Kwanwoma and Former Deputy Defence Minister, Hon Kofi Amankwah-Manu, has urged the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to select an unknown name for the running mate slot.
He argues that to put the acrimony and animosity to rest in the party, it will be imperative that they select someone whose name is not among the names listed as potential running mates.
The legislator made this known during an interview on Wontumi FM, insisting the candidate should come from outside those subtly and vigorously campaigning to be considered.
”Everyone who knows the history of our party and how running mates are chosen will be careful. No one contests to become a running mate. If I were the flagbearer and with what’s currently going on, you’ll be surprised.
Cast your minds back to when Akufo-Addo was choosing a running mate. Did he choose from the pool of names that were making the rounds? When he chose Bawumia, who knew about him?”
To him, the current developments make a mockery of the party’s decision to hold an early Congress to elect our flagbearer. The reason was to calm tempers.
