General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua, has criticised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over its handling of the detention of Dennis Miracle Aboagye, describing the institution’s public statement as inadequate.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr. Kodua questioned the basis for Mr. Aboagye’s continued detention, arguing that he has neither been formally charged nor informed of any alleged offence.
“EOCO’s statement on Dennis Miracle Aboagye is a disgrace to the institution because it lacks substance,” he said.
According to him, the detention is linked to Mr. Aboagye’s criticism of what he described as President John Dramani Mahama’s alleged third-term agenda.
“He is being held because of his strong criticism of President Mahama’s alleged third-term agenda,” Mr. Kodua alleged.
He maintained that due process should be followed in every case, insisting that individuals should not be detained without being informed of the allegations against them.
“He has neither been charged nor informed of any offence, yet he remains in custody,” he stated.
Mr. Kodua further warned that his party would respond in kind should similar actions occur when political circumstances change.
“If the tables turn, we will respond in the same manner,” he said.
