Germany defender Nico Schlotterbeck has been ruled out for the rest of the World Cup after reportedly suffering a torn ligament in his left ankle during Germany’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast on Saturday.
Schlotterbeck, who plays for Borussia Dortmund, started both Germany’s 7-1 victory over Curaçao and their 2-1 win over Ivory Coast.
However, he was taken off at halftime against Ivory Coast after appearing to be in pain near the end of the first half.
According to Sky Germany, the centre-back had an MRI scan on Sunday, which showed the full extent of the injury. The scan revealed that he had torn his medial collateral ligament.
Schlotterbeck is expected to be out of action for at least two months.
Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger is expected to take his place in Julian Nagelsmann’s starting team for Germany’s match against Ecuador on June 25.
