The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, says he has received no report indicating that any of the more than 460 people who travelled to the World Cup through state-sponsored fundraising have failed to return.
He said he assumed all the travellers had returned because no report had reached him confirming otherwise.
“Of the 460-plus people who were taken for the World Cup through state fundraising sponsorship, I have not received any report from any place to confirm if any have not returned. I assume that everybody has come,” he said, Accra-based Asempa FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com
The minister explained that the government did not charter a single aircraft to transport the group to the tournament and bring them back together, a move he said would have made it easier to establish who had returned.
Instead, the government issued individual tickets to the travellers, making it harder to account for everyone on a single return journey.
“We did not charter an aircraft to take us as a group and also bring us back, which would have been easier to know those who did not return. We issued individual tickets,” Adams stated.
