This wasn’t the way we wanted our World Cup journey to end – Thomas Partey

Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has shared an emotional message following Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Ghana’s campaign came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 in Kansas City.

Partey’s participation at the tournament was surrounded by controversy after he was unable to travel to Canada for Ghana’s opening match. Despite the setback, the 33-year-old bounced back and became one of the Black Stars’ standout performers, featuring in all three matches played in the United States.

Taking to Instagram after the team’s elimination, Partey admitted the result was difficult to accept but expressed pride in representing Ghana on football’s biggest stage.

“This wasn’t the way we wanted our World Cup journey to end. The disappointment is hard to put into words because we believed we were capable of so much more,” he wrote.

“Representing Ghana on the biggest stage in football has been one of the greatest honours of my career. Every time I wear this shirt, I gave everything I had, and that’s something I’ll always be proud of.

“To all the Ghanaians who supported us throughout this journey THANK YOU. Your passion, belief and unwavering support never went unnoticed. I felt it every step of the way.

“Football can be cruel, but setbacks are part of the game. We’ll take the lessons, keep working, and come back stronger.”
