Chairman of the Constitutional Amendment. committee, H Kwasi Prempeh has expressed concerns over the amount of illicit drugs that have been allowed to leave the shores of Ghana undetected.
According to him, if Ghana were a serious country, some officials put in charge of positions to address some of these issues should have been laid off by now.
However, because positions are based on political affiliations, incompetent people are occupying offices they are not supposed to.
Making this position known in a post shared via social media he said “It amazes me that not a single official in the chain of responsibility at any state entity has been sacked after this many stories of drugs leaving Ghana’s ports undetected. What do we understand by responsibility? Responsibility does not have to mean criminal culpability or complicity, but unless we hold certain persons in responsible positions accountable, they will continue to sleep on the job and more of these incidents will be recorded. This is what happens when party loyalty determines appointments to all responsible positions in our state institutions. We are not serious”.
Ghana has recorded several cases of the country’s airports and seaports being used to ferry cocaine.
The recent one is the Syrian who was arrested in Beruit with 40kg of cocaine.
Ghana’s Narcotic Control Commission in a statement said it collaborated with its colleagues indicating that there was a controlled delivery operation.
However, elements in the opposition party hold the view that Ghana never collaborated with their colleagues indicating Lebanon and that the said controlled delivery is just to sway Ghanaians.
